One-on-one community based mentoring
Our New Mentoring Programmes
Developing a greater sense of belonging
One-on-one mentoring also known as ‘community-based mentoring’ helps young people increase their confidence, develop a greater sense of belonging, and aspire to greatness. The majority of the children who come through the Big Brothers Big Sisters programme are looking for positive adult role models outside of their existing support structures, and that is what our organisation provides.
Community Based
The essentials of our programme
A young person aged 6-12 years old is matched with an adult volunteer (over 20 years old), based on personality, shared interests, and geographic location. Once a week, for a minimum of a year, the mentor meets with the
young person to spend time together for an hour or so. Whether it’s cooking, going to the beach, or playing sports, the possibilities are endless.
Community Based
Studies have shown
Studies have shown that community-based one-on-one mentoring through the Big Brothers Big Sisters model makes a lasting, positive impact on the life of a child. We endeavor to provide the framework for positive, enduring friendships and relationships that change the lives of the people involved.
Community Based
Community Support
As we are community-based, we depend on support from the community to keep our organisation going. Whether that is through our amazing volunteer mentors or donations, everything helps us make more matches and build the number of matches our organisation can support.
